Pretty Pastels in Winter

One of the biggest trends you'll see this season are Summery pastels.  The catwalk was absolutely filled with floaty lights, and now, so is the High Street.  The only thing is that it can be difficult to wear these perfectly pretty shades in the Winter. Here's how I've done it.

Pastel Pink Sparkly Top: Topshop
Light Grey Skinny Trousers: Uniqlo
Boots: Miss Selfridge
Necklace: Topshop

I absolutely adore this Topshop necklace!

Lipsticks, Nails and Patterned Tights

Not everything that glitters is gold, and you know what, not everything that glitters needs to be gold either.  Whilst shopping in Bentalls, Kingston last Saturday, I was mesmerised by the Gossip Girl Nails Inc Collection, and I immediately had to get my hands (or fingernails to be more precise) on The Blair Collection.

I'm a big Gossip Girl fan, and Blair is by far my favourite, so the choice was never about the colour, but about the character.  And having applied it, I couldn't have chosen better.

The base coat of a dark, forest green (Blair nail colour) is only accentuated by the clear, shimmering glitters of the top coat (Privileged nail colour).  Yes, my nail are a little chipped - this was taken after a long day at work.

And on to the tights...

Pattered tights are a big thing at the moment, so I thought I'd try a pair out.  I found these in H&M and immediately thought they were perfect ... in a paved driveway sort of way.  Not my favourites, but please let me know what you think.

I also treated myself to a lipstick on Saturday.  This is a very special lipstick, because (and now you'll work out how much of a sad geek I really am), it's my 50th Mac Lipstick.  For those of you who don't know, I have a lipstick database to keep track of them all.

Whirls & Twirls by Mac
A glossy, neutral colour with added sparkle, it's the perfect lipstick for this time of year.

"Yes, this is a furry gilet. No, I did not slaughter a sheep!"

There aren't that many outfits you can get away with a furry gilet draped on top.  The best advice I can give you is to keep the rest of the look very plain and accessorise with a bold coloured bag.

The Jacket for Autumn

I'm in love with blazers and jackets at the moment, but it can be very difficult to steer yourself away from block colours.  Whilst, they're incredibly necessary for any wardrobe, patterns are also a must.

River Island - £40

This River Island jacket is the perfect combination of the two - black and understated, yet dazzled in detail.   The perfect jacket for work, or to wear over a tan dress.

Ladylike?

I was out for brunch with my best friend, and he had a real issue with this outfit.  Because underneath my Topshop see-through mesh top, I'm not wearing another top.  Just a cropped, lace boob tube.  I need your opinion on this because I think this outfit is completely acceptable.  But what do you think?

I knew those wellies would come in handy!

I bought these spotted wellies when I was 17 because I had to head out to Cornwall for a Biology class trip.  Despite the fact that all I needed were a pair of wellies that kept me dry, I decided to go all out, and chose a pair that would stand out.  My teacher kept insisting that I'd scare aware the sea life.

But 5 years on and they're out again.

Sometimes you need to buy something essential today, that you'd still wear in the future.  Had I opted for any old pair I'm sure they'd have been binned the second I got back from Cornwall.

Hampton Courting

It's my 21st birthday.  Now, unline most people turning this age, I do not want to go out drinking.  I want to start my proper adulthood in utter sophisticationg.  I wanted to wear something colourful that stood out.  And this outfit certainly did.

The sunglasses are my favourites - very annoyed I broke them that day, despite the fact that my mum had kept them safe from harm since the 80s.

So...I've spent it at Hampton Court Palace with my boyfriend.

The Girl and the Dress that doesn't fit

The dress was on sale, so I bought it.  But it's a size too big, and despite the fact that it should really be worn how it's supposed to - strapless - the only way it can stay on is with a t-shirt underneath and a much padded bra.

Dress: Warehouse £45 on sale
